ABOUT

The John Jay Mariachi program began in 1994 with director Roland Sandoval. The group has been under the direction of Michelle Alanis since 2018. Mariachi Jalisco is made up of band, orchestra, and mariachi students. Students are able to take a mariachi course during the school day at John Jay High School/SEA.  They compete regularly year-round and have received superior division ratings at UIL Region Contest and TAME Area Contest since 2017. They have also qualified for State UIL and TAME contests the past three years. The group has also participated in Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza.
